Animal Cruelty

Top Priority

The Toledo Humane Society is committed to preventing animal cruelty and neglect in our community. There is no excuse for animal abuse.

Our Commitment

We employ two full-time cruelty investigators to enforce animal cruelty laws in Lucas County. We investigate almost 2,000 complaints a year.

The Toledo Humane Society asks anyone who witnesses animal cruelty, who knows of a sick or injured animal, or who knows of animals without adequate food, water, or shelter, to get help fast by reporting it. All reports are kept confidential and are responded to in the order they are received.

Animal Cruelty Report

There is no excuse for animal abuse. Animal cruelty is illegal and can be divided into two categories:

  • Neglect: the failure to provide an animal with necessities such as food, water, shelter, a clean living environment, and veterinary care.
  • Intentional cruelty: when an individual purposely inflicts any physical harm or injury to an animal

Legal action can be taken to help stop cruelty to animals and THS encourages the public to become the voice for the voiceless.

Here’s what you can do to help STOP animal cruelty: fill out the form on this page. Be sure to collect as many details you can such as the location and a description of the animal, license plate number if a vehicle is involved, exact address (including Zip Code), description of the home and suspected person, the nature of the abuse or neglect, and if this has happened before, as well as any other information you think may be necessary.
