WHAT TO DO IF YOU FIND A KITTEN(S):
Spring is a wonderful time of year… the sun is out, the weather is getting warmer, the birds are chirping! This time of year for us at THS also means KITTEN SEASON, and the time when many Good Samaritans find kittens in their yard!
When you find little kittens alone, it’s easy to assume that they may be orphaned or need your help, but that isn’t always the case! Momma is often nearby and leaves her kittens alone throughout the day. Kittens under 4 weeks of age have the best chance of survival with their mother, and whenever possible, should stay with her until they are weaned and can eat solid food consistently. THS schedules intakes by appointment, and CANNOT accommodate walk-in appointments for cats or kittens. Although we do our best to triage based on need and urgency, we quickly reach daily capacity as many of our intake appointments are scheduled in-advance.
If you need help determining if found kittens should be removed, need advice on orphaned kitten care, or if you find kittens that you believe need urgent attention, please email info@toledohumane.org for guidance.
The link below can help you determine which kittens may in fact need your help, and which are still thriving with their mother. THS already has nearly 200 kittens in foster care, and more kittens arriving every day!
